Whups in a Mad Science Universe mood let's talk about Hank and his family who don't have last names because last names are for suckers. As is not lazily inking things so I can go play video games for a bit. Haha whups.
Hank is the reluctant second-in-command of the currently unnamed giant mad science group that Mistress Modena is head of. He's the best at what he does (genetically engineering giant plants of various kinds), but he's much more of a neutral force, really. He just likes to tinker with plants. Due to a lab accident in grad school his eyes have become hyper sensitive to light so he wears sunglasses all the time now. His contract with Modena is a ten-year contract, and when our story starts eight of those ten years have passed.
Héloïse is his wife. She's Louisianan Creole (more or less though a couple world wars sort of put a couple generations in France). Her background is in literature, and she's fluent in French as well as Louisiana Creole French. She's made sure to teach her children French (with the help of a tutor when they were younger) and when angry will often switch to either French or Louisiana Creole French or a mix of those with English. Because of an illness and a major thing related to that she tends to stay within the bounds of their property, she just feels more comfortable there. But she can still read and with the internet she can still write literary critiques and send them out. It could be worse. It could be a lot worse.
Libitina goes by Libby, since she thinks the name Libby is a bit more approachable as a name. She attends a prep school and does very well, though never discusses her grades with the other students. She doesn't have many friends at the school for one reason or another, and she might have some social anxiety that she needs to address but doesn't acknowledge and brushes it off as being shy. She likes working with her dad on his plants, and to his dismay Modena has taken interest in Libby's interest. No one's quite sure how that will all play out, and neither Hank nor Modena will confront each other nor Libby about it.
Apollinaire is 10-11 and goes to a prestigious private school and looks up to his sister a lot. He's small for his age but it doesn't really bother him. He's more gregarious and outgoing, and likes to play class clown. He has interests that can be more construed as "girly" such as clothes and fashion and theatre and baking and other things like that. These interests don't really bother his family (Hank wonders if maybe they should find a sport for him, but usually these thoughts end when he has to go back to his plants), but sometimes bother others.
Just some stuff. Who knows what's up with this universe it doesn't even have a name haha
